What We Do

Friends of Hospice was established in May 1994 as a non-profit organization with the sole mandate to support Bermuda’s only hospice Agape House by fundraising, providing therapeutic and emotional support programmes, and volunteer services. We are Bermuda Registered Charity #391.

It is our firm belief that everyone deserves the right to comfort and dignity in their final days as well as specialized palliative care. We, at Friends of Hospice and Agape House, subscribe to a holistic approach, providing hospice and palliative care support services that are complementary to patients’ medical care.

As serious illness progresses, every day is precious. We not only provide support to our patients, but to their families and loved ones, honouring their wishes, and minimizing discomfort as much as possible so that they may enjoy life, and create cherished days and memories together. We offer volunteer companions, special meals, and therapy services to complement medical treatment.

The ways in which we provide additional support are varied. Some examples are:

  • Celebration of Life: wedding anniversaries, birthdays, and other special occasions;
  • Podiatrist services to patients of Agape House and participants in our Day Hospice programme
  • Transportation for one of our resident patients to attend her son’s primary school graduation, and early evening transportation for a young family to and from Agape House;
  • Legal support, including the drafting of a Will and affidavit to one of our resident patients in her final days to ensure her husband had the necessary legal documents to adopt her young son.
